Following successful wage negotiations with the Trade Union of Commercial Employees, the chain is providing an average increase of 8 percent in sales and logistics, while an average of 6 percent in central areas, i.e. above inflation.

“We employ more than 5,400 colleagues across the country, and as a responsible employer, we place special emphasis on providing plannability and security in a constantly changing economic environment. In the past three years, we have spent more than 10 billion forints on wage increases, and this year we will again provide our employees with an increase above inflation

– said Silke Janz, CFO of PENNY Hungary responsible for HR.

Flexibility in benefits too

In addition to salary increases, PENNY will continue to contribute to employee satisfaction in 2026 with a diverse benefits package. This includes, among others, the SZÉP card, a 10 percent employee shopping discount in PENNY stores, and support for commuting. The company reimburses 86 percent of the cost of local passes, and reimburses 30 forints/kilometer if you use your own car. Additional benefits are also available throughout the year – especially during seasonal and holiday periods – such as gift cards and free seasonal products at Easter and Christmas.

In addition, PENNY will further strengthen its flexible benefits approach in 2026 and introduce a new system where employees can choose from different benefit elements according to their individual life situation, whether it concerns everyday expenses support, housing, healthcare or long-term savings.

In addition to financial security, PENNY also pays special attention to the well-being of its employees. It was the first in the retail sector to introduce an internal telephone helpline for employees, which provides professional legal and social support for dealing with everyday life situations.
