Hungarian-Algerian agricultural relations must be further strengthened
In order to ensure a safe food supply, it is extremely important for our country to get to know Algeria’s production experience and technologies, said Minister of Agriculture István Nagy, who received Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni, the head of Algeria’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in his office.
The minister drew attention to the fact that there is a basis for strategic cooperation between Hungary and Algeria. In the past period, our agricultural and foreign trade relations have been gratifyingly strengthened. The head of the ministry emphasized that, due to the African country’s climate, our country also needs the experience gained in crop cultivation. In the fields of research, education and breeding, it is important to deepen cooperation, which is also extremely important from the point of view of food safety. We need to establish as much cooperation as possible, in which Hungarian and Algerian specialists and research institutes can work together. The best investment is to exchange higher education students with each other, because in the long term, the economy of the two countries can develop better in this way, but in terms of technological, research and genetic methodologies, partnership is also important – listed István Nagy.
He explained that our country would like to include concrete projects at the next meeting of the Hungarian-Algerian Joint Economic Committee
With these, we can also move forward in practice in terms of cooperation between the two countries. In relation to animal health challenges, István Nagy also spoke about the fact that bird flu causes serious problems for domestic farmers, which means difficulties in Algeria as well. Our country is also open to the experiences and solution proposals of the North African country, he added. The minister emphasized that there are further opportunities in the field of sunflower cultivation. It is in the fundamental economic interest of our country to have access to Algerian knowledge and experience related to breeding. In addition, Hungary is ready to share its forest management practices with the North African country. Currently, the largest national afforestation program in the history of our country is taking place, we are also ready to present the theoretical and technological innovations to our partners, he added.
