Inflation can set back the demand for meat products
Due to inflation, quality meat products are pushed into the background, and more and more shoddy products may appear on the market – including shoddy goods with different fanciful names that do not fit into the food book categories.
Due to the significantly increased prices in recent months, the actors of the domestic meat industry expect a decrease in demand and the repeated appearance of lower quality products in the future. During this year’s festive period, however, the players in the sector are still counting on traffic similar to last year.
“The price increase experienced by consumers, called drastic, is very relative, since the costs of processors have increased since the beginning of the year to such an extent that in many cases they are not even covered by the price of the products. Further price increases are expected in the meat products market in the coming months”.
– said Tamás Éder, president of the Hungarian Meat Industry Association (Meat Association) to VG.
