Egg Association: large-scale egg production decreased in the first half of the year
Large-scale egg production has fallen by about 9 percent year-on-year in the first half of this year, after an almost 11 percent increase last year. It is expected that 1-1.2 billion eggs will be produced in Hungary this year after the 1.24 billion of last year – the Secretary of the Egg Association said on World Egg Day.
Molnár Györgyi said that 52 percent of domestic demand comes from large-scale production, 26 percent from domestic supply, and 21-22 percent from imports. It is estimated that 600 million eggs come from backyard production, with imports ranging from 480 to 500 million a year. Like last year, the Hungarian population can consume 2.3 billion eggs this year. Last year, the consumption of eggs per head was 238 – according to the Central Statistical Office KSH), the Secretary added. (MTI)
