More companies had salary increases than planned at the beginning of the year
While wages were increased at eight out of ten companies last year, the willingness to raise wages has decreased in the 2023 plans: in January 2023, only six out of ten companies calculated wage increases for this year, with an average increase of 12.2%. On the other hand, during the first half of the year, 76% of the wages have already been increased, and this number can be expected to rise, since more than half of the employers indicated that they do not know whether there will be an increase by the end of the year, but they do not consider it impossible.
At the end of the first half of the year, Profession.hu conducted a survey of the companies’ wage improvements for 2023 and their plans for this. Three-quarters of the respondents – which included micro, small and medium-sized enterprises as well as large companies – have already raised their employee wages this year: 67% once, while 9% more than once. This rate exceeds the plans at the beginning of the year: in January, 62% of companies stated that they expected wage increases this year.
In the workplaces where there was already a salary increase this year, the maximum (in every second company) was a maximum of 10%, but in 3% it exceeded 20%. There are companies (11%) where they expect a second round of wage increases this year. According to the current situation, salary increases are expected in the second half of the year for companies offering mostly white-collar jobs, as well as for companies operating in the areas of heavy industry, machine manufacturing, administration and service support.
