The Deputy State Secretary said that these producer communities form a bridge through which high-quality products made from domestic raw materials can reach consumers in the shortest possible way. They also play a key role in sustainability, which is why short supply chains are indispensable players in the food production of the future. Beáta Olga Felkai highlighted that the Ministry of Agriculture has recently supported small producers and local food production with several measures. The amended “flexi” regulation provides opportunities for product production in several categories, and a collection of frequently asked questions is available on the website of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih), which provides assistance in safe food production. At the same time, this segment has also received special attention at the regulatory level, since 80 percent of the products used in public catering must be purchased from the public catering short supply chain (KREL), he added. He also noted that the High Quality Food (KMÉ) trademark also helps increase the competitiveness of domestic products, which is the only national quality system that any food manufacturer can join if its products meet strict professional conditions. In connection with the REL Expo 2025 event, the “Open Doors Day” event series also received special attention, which was implemented for the first time this year on an experimental basis. The initiative attracted around 15,000 visitors at 150 locations in five regions, offering a variety of experiences from gastronomy to crafts to petting animals. The Ministry of Agriculture aims to support similar initiatives and increase their national awareness.
