TIM State Secretary: it is important to use new technologies in agriculture
The Ministry of Technology and Industry (TIM) considers it important to apply new technologies in agriculture as soon as possible, which is why it has started the implementation of the Digital Agricultural Strategy together with the Ministry of Agriculture – said the parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Technology and Industry (TIM) on Thursday in Veresegyház.
At the opening of the strawberry plantation of Veresi Paradicsom Kft., Zsófia Koncz said: it is a great pleasure that TIM’s background institution, the Bay Zoltán Research Institute, participated in the research that enables the cultivation of strawberries in addition to Veresi tomatoes, by analyzing the nutrient media. He added that the company managed to create a real tomato brand in Hungary and everyone remembers innovation about the company. “I wish that the strawberries from Veres will be very successful, like the tomatoes from Veres,” the state secretary added. Zsófia Koncz spoke about how increasing efficiency in food production is one of the most important tasks. He emphasized that the food industry will be an outstanding segment of the entire Hungarian industry, which is why TIM started implementing the Digital Agricultural Strategy together with the Ministry of Agriculture. As part of this, knowledge on topics such as digital farm management, precision plant protection, precision livestock breeding or the use of drones will be available to farmers with the help of teaching materials developed by Hungarian experts – he listed. Bence Tuzson, the government secretary of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office, said that the Veres strawberry was born out of crises. The coronavirus epidemic, the energy crisis and the tomato virus appeared, but this company did not think in terms of a survival strategy, but brought a new exportable element into its high-tech production, winter strawberry production, he reminded.
“Today’s most important message is that you always have to run away from a crisis,” stated the state secretary
Anikó Juhász, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, said that the cooperation of the horticultural sector with technology, industry and innovation will be included as a separate plan in the new EU common agricultural policy from 2023. According to him, the ministry had to develop a description of the agricultural knowledge and innovation system and attempts to develop it, which support four areas of action, advice, training, innovation and digitalization. In the first three areas, progress can only be made in cooperation with partner ministries, he added. Zsolt Márkus, the managing director of the owner of Veresi Paradicsom Kft., spoke about the fact that the good functioning of the agrarian farm is a strategic goal of every country. He reminded that his company also had to deal with several crises, but they fled from the crisis forward, into innovation.
According to public company data, Veresi Paradicsom Kft. closed the 2021 business year with HUF 1.5 billion in net sales and HUF 6.3 million in taxable profit. In the 2020 business year, it achieved a taxable profit of HUF 32.3 million with net sales of HUF 1.43 billion, while in the year before the epidemic, in 2019, the net sales were still HUF 1.3 billion and HUF 172.85 million result of the taxpayer.
