Makó’s long parsley root was given origin protection with the assistance of Tesco
Tesco, farmers and the Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) have teamed up to earn a protected designation of origin for the long parsley root of Makó.
A product can only get the protected designation of origin marking if it originates from the given region, all the stages of production take place there and it has unique and proven characteristics. Tesco sells about 450,000kg of the long parsley root of Makó in a year. For Tesco it is very important to popularise special or traditional Hungarian food products, and to support Hungarian farmers. Other origin protected foods are also available in Tesco stores: white pepper from Szentes, apricot from Gönc and onions from Makó. (x)
