Horsemen from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia blockaded the common freight border crossings with the European Union on Monday at noon, the relevant professional organizations announced.

The reason for the protest is the introduction of the European Union’s Entry/Exit System (EES) and the limitation of the period of stay of drivers in the Schengen area. Carriers complain that as non-EU citizens they can only stay in the EU for 90 days without interruption, which makes their work difficult.

The carriers have parked their vehicles near the Schengen border and are planning a full-scale blockade of freight traffic.

Disruptions are expected at the Tompa, Röszke and Hercegszántó border crossings with Serbia towards Hungary.

According to reports, the situation could also endanger the operation of supply chains.

In Montenegro, the International Road Transport Federation also closed freight traffic at border crossings and in the port of Bar at noon. The organization demands that the competent authorities immediately resolve the problems that have plagued the sector for years.

According to the organizers, the protest actions will continue until the demands are met.
