Social responsibility and billions in savings – employment of people with disabilities creates value
Every year, domestic enterprises pay almost HUF 200 billion as a rehabilitation contribution to the state coffers, since the proportion of employees with disabilities does not reach five percent. According to estimates, this group can represent up to 100,000 reserves for the Hungarian labor market. In order to develop and implement the well-thought-out strategy required to employ these employees, most companies are currently unable to allocate suitable specialists, so it is worth enlisting the support of an external expert or HR service provider.
In the case of employees with altered working capacity, we are faced with drastic figures as soon as employment issues are on the agenda. There may be nearly 450,000 people who are active, but only 140-150,000 of them are currently working. An even more surprising figure is that domestic employers pay rehabilitation contributions for around 80,000 people, which could easily be avoided if domestic employers – as a potential labor market reserve – employed them in a larger proportion. Numerous positive examples prove that among employers where rehabilitation employment has been introduced, tangible results are realized not only in terms of cost optimization, but also in terms of strengthening the corporate culture and the employer brand. However, in order for these to be visible on the market, companies employing more than 25 people need a complex strategy, so that the proportion of disabled people reaches the 5% threshold. On an annual level, the rehabilitation contribution represents a cost item of nearly HUF 200 billion for companies operating in Hungary.
