Nutrition labeling for healthy eating
Healthy nutrition and the development of a healthy diet are essential. This requires conscious customers and clear markings on food, said Dr. Beáta Olga Felkai, Deputy Secretary of State responsible for food industry and trade policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, at the round table discussion on “Promoting healthy nutrition” in Rome.

It was said at the event about front-side nutrition labeling (FOPNL) and its impact on health that it is important for Hungary that a harmonized FOPNL system does not disadvantage traditional and protected foods that preserve the peculiarities of our eating culture, as well as foods that comply with other legal requirements. In addition, it should not be an overall evaluation of the food, but should contain actual information about the individual nutrients in the product to ensure that each consumer can make a choice based on their specific circumstances and health status.
The correct labeling also helps in the fight against obesity, which is considered a national disease
The Deputy State Secretary drew attention to the fact that we support the harmonized introduction of the FOPNL, which would help not only manufacturers but also consumers to make health-conscious choices, since overweight and obesity are also a serious problem in Hungary, as well as the high number of resulting diseases and the continuous growth. As part of the conference, the results of domestic research related to the topic were also presented, which showed both the impact of front-side nutrition labels on the industry and the feedback from consumers.
