A severe bread shortage is expected in Slovakia
Rising energy prices present unprecedented challenges to Slovak municipalities. On the evening of January 30, public lights will be switched off in Slovakia to protest that the government has not yet done anything to compensate for high energy prices. There was nothing left for the settlement leaders but pressure actions. According to the interest association representing bakers, bread and muffins may be in short supply if the government does not act, as bakeries, pasta manufacturers and confectioners will receive staggering energy bills.
Advance invoices were received that were four times higher, but some people received invoices that were ten times higher than before,” informed Milan Lapšanský, president of the Association of Slovak Bakers, Confectioners and Pasta Makers. The New Year’s price increase was such a shock to them that an unprecedented wave of closures threatens small and medium-sized bakeries throughout Slovakia, reports Infostart.
“We have learned that chain stores are planning to stop baking their baked goods on site because the production costs far exceed those from real bakeries. Due to these two factors, there could be an incredible shortage of bread and muffins, and this could lead to an increase in imports.”
– added the president of the association.
