Szijjártó: the food industry is a strategic sector, its operation is important for national security
The food industry is a strategic sector, its proper and efficient operation is also important for national security, the government’s goal is to guarantee continuous supply and, in addition, to improve export performance, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced on Thursday.
At the handover of the expansion of Viterra Növényolajgyártó Kft., the head of the ministry emphasized that the food industry of a country can only be competitive today under the most modern technological conditions, so it is good news that the most efficient and largest oil refining plant in Central Europe has been established in Foktő.
For the HUF 22 billion investment, the state provided HUF 1.8 billion in support, helping to create forty new jobs and guaranteeing the retention of the current 134 employees.
Péter Szijjártó called the food industry, which employs around 135 thousand people, a strategic sector. He pointed out that, amid the economic difficulties of recent years, the sector unfortunately had the opportunity to conduct stress tests, but these showed that the sector is crisis-proof, as no supply disruptions occurred in our country.
