The Századvég Economic Researcher expects the Hungarian economy to grow close to or even 5 percent in 2019, one of the highest growth rates among EU countries. Slower growth of 3.9 percent is expected next year. As in this year, consumption will play a major role in growth, which will primarily be supported by wage increases and credit growth.
In its latest forecast, the research institute recalls that the Hungarian economy posted strong growth of 5.0 percent in the third quarter, while the average growth in the EU was only 1.7 percent. The Slovak economy increased by 1.3 percent, the Czech Republic by 3, Poland by 4.2 and Romania by 3.0 percent. (MTI)
