Sweet Palermo® – in search of the perfect pepper
The story of Sweet Palermo® peppers isn’t just one of successful breeding, but also of a network of partners built on a shared commitment to quality. Internationally acclaimed seed breeding company Rijk Zwaan has worked for years to offer a new consumer experience – and this sweet, pointed pepper has now become a permanent fixture on vegetable racks.
The Sweet Palermo® trademark only covers special varieties that guarantee extra sweetness and reliable quality. Rijk Zwaan conducts regular Brix measurements in stores to check the quality expected from the brand, including product quality and sweetness, while maintaining close contact with growers and retailer partners to guarantee that the Sweet Palermo® name represents premium quality for consumers.
Balázs B. Szabó has been growing Sweet Palermo® varieties in Kiskunfélegyháza since 2017 and has been working exclusively with them ever since.
Gyula Győző, a producer from Tiszakécske emphasises that Sweet Palermo® isn’t a mass product.
According to Kamil Tóth, retail account manager of Rijk Zwaan, the product’s fruity taste, crisp flesh and small core make it unique and practical.
Rijk Zwaan’s partner programme offers not only seeds but also comprehensive support for growers. (x)
