Hungarians’ financial pessimism is stagnant
Hungarians continue to react the most sensitively to the deterioration of the economic situation among the countries in the region, according to the Publicis Groupe survey*. The research, which covers Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary and is repeated every quarter, examined how people’s consumption habits change as a result of the difficult economic conditions. The survey showed that although a significant improvement can already be felt in the countries of the region, the positive turn at home is still to be seen.
Although the proportion of those who felt the need to curb their spending in all consumption categories did not deteriorate compared to the previous period of the survey, the spring of 2023 (41%), 37% of Hungarians still say that they save on everything they can. In this regard, we are still in the first place in the region, where – with the exception of Poland – the countries of the region have already seen a significant improvement from this quarter. If we compare this data with the data measured in the first quarter of 2022, we can see that at the outbreak of the war , during the rising period of inflation indicators, significantly less people saved than now (22%).
