Signature 40: operational marketing professionals in the spotlight again
Once again the Signature Platform has rewarded the operational professionals behind successful campaigns and projects. The idea to reward the best brand managers of the year came from advertising professionals Márton Nagy and Ádám Vaszary.
This article is available for reading in Trade magazin 2023/10.
– This is the second year you organised Signature 40. What were your experiences from last year?
– Ádám Vaszary: Last year we already felt that we were on to something that the industry really needed, but this year was a real breakthrough. Last time we evaluated 46 applications, this year there were 220 entries – this is a stunning number.
– How has the competition changed this year? What worked so well last time that you kept it for the 2023 contest?
– Márton Nagy: One of the most important improvements was the introduction of thematic lists as a kind of sector- or industry-specific shortlist, before the main ranking, the Signature 40 list – which contains the Top 40 managers – is compiled.
– Who were the jury panel members this year?
– ÁV: Our professional and media partners have contributed to selecting the members of the jury panel. We have put together a decision-making panel of 72 online members and a 15-member Board of Trustees. In just one week, the jury voted on the nominees 3,297 times.
– The award ceremony was held at the Marketing Summit in mid-September. How difficult was the jury’s task this year?
– ÁV: It was very difficult for the jury. On the one hand, even the applicants themselves are learning the criteria, so the quality of the applications has varied greatly. Another task was that we had to filter out the decision-makers from the entries. We still have a lot of work to do to explain what we mean by operational professionals.
– What were the strongest segments, from which the most applicants came? How did the new thematic lists work?
– MN: We received the most entries for the Signature Brand brand manager list, which was followed closely by the FMCG sector-specific list. We believe that the thematic lists have worked very well. We announced 8 lists this year, but the initiative could have handled twice as many.
– What can we expect next year? What are the long-term plans with Signature 40?
– MN: There will be thematic lists, we are going to focus on organising a really prestigious award ceremony, and we will continue to fine-tune the criteria. Our main focus is going be on communication, extending the entry deadlines, and organising workshops and consultations on how to enter.
– ÁV: What we still believe in very much is the referral system. It is a very good feeling for the recommending person, but also for the candidate. We also plan to launch our Signature Alumni programme with the winners – there are already more than 110 of them with this year’s lists.
