Magazine: A European championship for private label products
Lidl, REWE (Penny Market’s owner) and SPAR are those retail chains that won the European Private Label Award in 2019 and have stores in Hungary too. In addition to them, another five retailers were honoured with the prize, which was established by the European Supermarket Magazine last year.
Lidl Netherlands won in three categories (ambient grocery, non-alcoholic beverages, convenience foods), SPAR International won in the confectionery and snacking category, and REWE won in the dairy products category. Stephen Wynne Jones, the magazine’s told: the winners represent a quality with which retailers can compete with big national brands – and in some cases they even manage to beat them. There were twice as many competitors this year as last year. //
