A Rotower container farm was handed over in Debrecen
A Rotower container farm suitable for hydroponic (soilless) plant cultivation was handed over on Wednesday in Debrecen, at the premises of Green Drops Farm Kft.
In the container, four towers of 15 levels each were placed, on which hundreds of plants – leafy vegetables, herbs, but even smaller cherry tomatoes and strawberries – can be grown without soil, all year round – the company’s executive presented the technology on site. Gréta Rácz highlighted: in their agricultural technology start-up company, they created plant growing towers that do not require soil for cultivation during use, water enriched with nutrient solution circulates inside the tower, which feeds the plants. They can build vertically designed, space-saving towers, up to several meters high, on the sides of which the plants grow – he explained, adding that this is an indoor production technology, meaning they can precisely control the temperature of air and water, humidity, carbon dioxide -quantity, which is complemented by a self-developed sensor data collector.
The company was launched in 2019 and has sold more than a hundred towers and many smaller plant growing equipment.
The company, which currently has four employees, had a turnover of HUF 97 million last year, which they would like to double this year, Gréta Rácz told MTI. Viktor Papp, the head of the Fidesz-KDNP faction of the Debrecen municipality, reminded on the spot that Green Drops Farm Kft. won the sustainable city award in 2021, after its activities contribute to the green future of Debrecen. He added: Rotower towers can be found in several educational institutions, kindergartens and libraries in Debrecen, with which not only healthy vegetables can be grown, but also contribute to expanding the knowledge of kindergarten and elementary school children in this area.
