Preliminary statistical results
Károly Zerényi, member of the body of representatives of the Guild of Hungarian Restaurateurs (MVI) shared the preliminary statistical results on the changes in the trade with our magazine. According to data published by the Central Statistical Office (KSH), the gross sales turnover of hospitality units was 27 percent lower in 2020 than in the previous year.
In 2019 there were 26,000 active hospitality businesses, from which 12,000 were sole traders and 14,000 were companies. On 30 June 2020 the number of bars and restaurants was 50,832 – only 627 fewer than a year before. This indicates that the majority of places survived the first wave of the pandemic. Data from 31 December 2020 will show the impact of the second wave. //
