A record number of entries were received for the 13th Saint Stephen’s Day Bread Competition
This year, the largest number of products entered the professional competition announced by the Hungarian Bakers’ Association for the 13th time: almost 100 bakery products were nominated by Hungarian-owned baking enterprises in the three competition categories. In 2024, one of the entered products will be Ország Kenyere, the Saint Stephen’s day bread. In the first round, the professional jury already selected 9 products per category, which entered the second round of selection.
Not only bakery association members, but any Hungarian-owned bakery business can enter the professional competition of the Hungarian Bakers’ Association. The competition is becoming more and more popular: this year, nearly 100 products were nominated in 3 categories. 20 businesses started with 33 products for the title of St. Stephen’s daily bread. 19 companies submitted 38 products for the Innovative bread category, while 12 companies submitted 27 products for the Salty walking cake competition. The entered bakery products were developed by the applicants for this competition, so they will not be commercially available until after the competition.
You could apply for the Szent István day bread category with a product that was made with traditional, added yeast, sourdough technology, and at least two types of flour. It was a requirement that it contain only Hungarian and natural ingredients.
