Hungary’s digital payment index is also above average at the regional level
For the second time this year, Mastercard measured our country’s Digital Payment Index, which measures the development of the market in the field of digital payments based on three main pillars: infrastructure, knowledge and use. The total score of the index increased by 7 points in one year, primarily along the lines of infrastructure and the use of digital payments.
The aim of the index, presented for the first time last year, is to serve as a compass in the electronic payment market and to give a holistic picture of the extent and development of digitalization in Hungary. As a reference point, the Digital Payment Index helps market players in relation to development guidelines and regulations by revealing the state of the payment infrastructure and measuring consumer knowledge and attitudes related to different payment solutions. In addition to Hungary, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Romania and Serbia also took part in the research this year.
“We are very proud that the work invested by domestic market and regulatory players in the development of digital payments is clearly bearing fruit. We created this metric to gain deeper insight and find the points that, with more attention, can accelerate development and make the digital payments ecosystem more efficient. It is a particular pleasure that the results are outstanding not only from a domestic point of view, but also from a regional point of view”
– said Endre Eölyüs, Mastercard’s manager responsible for Hungary and Slovenia, in connection with the results.
In 2021, the Hungarian Digital Payment Index achieved 58 points out of 100. This result was calculated from the points of the individual pillars: 73 points were achieved in the Infrastructure category, 51 in the Knowledge category and 49 in the Usage category.
