Canned meat and liver paté switch to more practical packaging
In 2010 the canned meat market contracted by nearly 20 percent, while long shelf-life liver spreads and patés saw their sales decrease by 10 percent – Erika Vörös, marketing manager with Hamé Hungária Kft. (who also distributes the Globus brand) informed us. As in so many other categories, the share of private label products has been growing. Private labels prefer traditional flavours, which means that more special flavours have remained the realm of manufacturer brands. Anett Zuberecz, Szegedi Paprika Spice and Canned Product Manufacturing Zrt.’s marketing manager told Trade magazin that these days several products are available with a special flavouring. Hamé’s expert added that they are changing from cans to aluseal packaging because it is more environmentally friendly and easier to open. The company also introduced new product groups such as Globus cooled patés, liver spreads and Globus salads. Szegedi Paprika marketing manager also told that their products are preserved by heat treatment, without using preservatives. Besides classic liver spread and paté products, the company also distributes Címeres, Snack and KING products. From Snack products the goose and duck liver-based products with different flavouring are the most popular: Goose liver paté with white wine, Goose liver paté with cognac, Magyaros goose liver paté and Magyaros Duck liver paté. At HUNGAROPACK 2009 the product family’s packaging was awarded the special price.
