Barriers still exist
According to Christian Verschuerent, director general of EuroCommerce, the Brussels-based retail organisation makes great efforts to improve the image of retail trade. He thinks that the spreading of digitalisation and personalisation consumers can choose from many buying options, so the demand for information is on the rise. The USA and China are ahead of European retail in terms of shopper access, digital technology and smartphone use. Europe’s strengths are regulation, consumers and data protection, food safety, sustainability and circular economy aspects. Barriers still exist in European retail trade, but the different countries treat each other with respect and will always serve customers in their mother tongue.

Mobility – many consumers are on the go all the time, 4. Being connected – thanks to technology packaging informs and makes shoppers interact.
