Lidl stays in the No.1 spot
For the fourth time Lidl is at the top of Trade magazin’s FMCG retailer ranking. Head of company communication Judit Tőzsér helps to look back on 2023.
“We are delighted that Lidl Magyarország is No.1 in the domestic FMCG retailer ranking for the fourth time, with gross sales of HUF 1.41 thousand billion. Last year was also special because we opened the 200th Lidl store in Hungary, and we now serve customers on 250,000m². Last year Lidl Magyarország was employing more than 8,500 people and we are now the 9th biggest employer in the country. We have increased salaries five times since January 2023.
Even more Hungarian products – at home and abroad
We will continue to place great emphasis on supporting Hungarian suppliers and increasing the competitiveness of the Hungarian agri-food sector. Our highly successful “Lidl for Hungarian Suppliers” programme celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, and our momentum continues in putting Hungarian products on the shelves of Lidl stores, both at home and abroad. We have won the “Fruit and Vegetable Retailer of the Year” award for the fourth year in a row and the “Fresh Bakery Retailer of the Year” award for the second time in a row. As for our sustainability efforts, Lidl has the largest fleet of alternative fuel vehicles used for product delivery among grocery chains!
More than 700 products at long-lasting low prices
Reacting to the price-sensitivity of consumers, we were one of the first to launch a sustained price reduction programme at the beginning of 2023, and we have been helping Hungarians with a growing selection of cheaper products ever since. With more than 700 permanently reduced prices, we have discounted products in every category, from essentials to convenience goods. Our digital loyalty scheme, the free Lidl Plus app, gives users even more discounts. As a driving force of the Hungarian economy, we will continue to contribute to the development and success of the country in all areas of our operations”. (x)
