National research: this is what Hungarians eat when they go on a trip
94% of Hungarians tend to eat food while traveling, the most important aspects of which are practicality, price and quality when choosing them – a recent national survey by OMV Hungária[1], which was completed by nearly 13 thousand people, showed. Based on the results, we most often eat sandwiches on the go: three-quarters of respondents eat packaged or fresh sandwiches when they go on the road, followed by sweets (45%) and sweet pastries (42%), such as croissants, cocoa snails or cottage cheese bags .
It is interesting that when traveling, food bought at a gas station is just as popular as meals brought from home: 64% of those filling up buy snacks at the filling station, and 63% also prepare a snack package at home. Most people consume these while traveling (66%), but many also stop to eat at a rest stop (54%) or gas station (42%).
When shopping at the gas station, practical snacks come to the fore: based on the research, in 9 out of 10 cases, the respondents buy foods that can be consumed easily and quickly. Half of those filling in eat takeaway while traveling, and a third eat them locally.
When choosing food at a gas station, most people look for practicality while traveling (51%), and price (50%) and quality (49%) are equally important considerations. While price sensitivity was indicated by half of the respondents, only a third mentioned that they are open to discounts and special offers, and only a fifth of them consider the size and quantity of the products to be important.
Fresh or packaged sandwiches (50%) are most often bought at filling stations, followed by sweet and savory pastries (42%), hot dogs (35%) and snacks and sweets (34%). 40% of the respondents stop at a well to buy food at least once a month.
