Cheaper eggs at Easter than last year
According to data by the Central Statistical Office (KSH), Hungary bought 1% more shell eggs (32.7 thousand tonnes), including nearly 17% more fresh eggs (17.8 thousand tonnes) from the international market in January-November 2023 compared to the same period last year.

Shell egg export decreased by 17% to 10.3 thousand tonnes, while fresh eggs export plunged by 19% to 1.3 thousand tonnes. AKI PÁIR data reveals that the price of table eggs (M+L) from cage farming in Hungary was HUF 53.67 per piece at the place of packaging, in the first seven weeks of 2024, 18.7% lower than the average price in the same period of 2023.
AKI’s slaughtering statistics inform that 684.6 thousand tonnes (live weight) of poultry were slaughtered in Hungary in 2023, 7.9% more than in the previous year. Of these 500.3 thousand tonnes (+9.1%) were slaughter chicken and 73.1 thousand tonnes (-11.7%) were slaughter turkey. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of milling wheat in Hungary – excluding VAT and shipping costs – was HUF 67,000 /tonne (-32% compared to a year earlier), feed wheat’s price was HUF 59,500 /tonne (-39%), and feed corn could be purchased for HUF 57,300/tonne (-38%) in the fourth week of February. //
