Wine has become cheaper in retail chains, while organised retail is consolidating
According to the Nielsen Retail Index, wine value sales grew by 14 percent and volume sales were up 8 percent in the eight retail chains measured by Nielsen, in the December 2009-May 2010 period. Sales went above 20 million litres and totalled at HUF 11 billion. Red wine had a 54-percent value share and rosé grew from 8 to 9 percent at the expense of white wine which had a 37-percent value share. In general, the price of wine reduced from HUF 571/litre to HUF 537/litre.
