Pensioner vouchers: each chain entices customers differently
In early September, the distribution of food vouchers for pensioners began, and retail chains are outbidding each other with special offers for seniors. From Auchan to Tesco, every retailer has its own strategy to win over this important customer group. Here is an overview of the biggest campaigns.
Lidl: coupon and digital extras – Lidl gives a 500 HUF coupon for every purchase of at least 5000 HUF made with vouchers, allowing pensioners to collect up to 3000 HUF in additional discounts. After redeeming the coupons, further promotions are available through the Lidl Plus app, targeting digitally active seniors.
Aldi: 1000 HUF coupon for every 8000 HUF purchase – According to Aldi’s statement, customers receive a 1000 HUF coupon if they spend at least 8000 HUF and pay partly with the pensioners’ food voucher. The coupon can be redeemed in any Aldi store in Hungary, regardless of the basket value, offering flexible use.
Tesco: the most valuable offer – The British chain increases the value of vouchers by up to 15 percent. Shoppers receive a 10 percent immediate discount, plus an additional 5 percent coupon that can be redeemed for anything in Tesco’s assortment. This way, a 30,000 HUF voucher can be worth as much as 34,500 HUF in products. Tesco will provide this benefit until the end of the year to ease the burden of Christmas expenses.
SPAR: coupons for purchases over 5000 HUF – SPAR launched its campaign on September 11. For every 5000 HUF spent with vouchers, shoppers receive a 500 HUF coupon, which can be redeemed until December 31. Coupons are issued and accepted only at traditional checkouts.
Auchan: doubling with loyalty points – Auchan’s campaign, running until the end of November, offers Bizalom loyalty points equal to the voucher amount, provided the customer has a loyalty card. A maximum of 3000 HUF in points can be earned per transaction, but with smart shopping, pensioners can collect up to 30,000 HUF worth of points, which can later be redeemed in one go.
