The market wants traceable products
In the last 1-2 years demand for reliable product data increased in logistic processes. Regulation 1169/2011 of the European Union entered into force in December 2014. It regulates how consumers are to be informed about food products by food business operators. Much more information has to be displayed on products’ packaging and it also has to be made available when buying online or via smartphone – this practically makes it impossible for companies to avoid using digital, online solutions. The authorities also expect the traceability of goods in more and more cases.
Zoltán Krázli, implementation director of GS1 Magyarország Nonprofit Zrt. told our magazine that international standards organisation GS1 has been supporting supply chains for 40 years. Their identification numbers (GTIN, GLN, SSCC) can help identify products and transportation units. The GS1 logistic label and its GS1-128 barcode have been playing a key role in order picking and warehousing processes for many years. GS1 DataBar is a new-type barcode that uses less space to indicate important product information, including traceability data too. This solution is already being used in Hungary in the fresh product category.
