Food waste in Hungary has dropped by a third in eight years
According to a 2024 survey by the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih), Hungarian households throw away an average of 21.5kg of food unnecessarily each year, which represents a 35% decrease compared to 2016. The result is encouraging, but 206,000 tonnes of food is still wasted every year. 2024 data indicate that a Hungarian consumer produces 59.7kg of food waste per year, 36% of which could be prevented.
