There is huge interest in the Firewood Program, which in some regions is even multiple times the needs of previous years, which is why the production capacity has been increased, and the state forestry farms are regrouping in order to meet the needs of the population, Minister of Agriculture István Nagy announced on his social media page.

According to the minister, the growth is well indicated by the fact that, while the state forestry farms sold 500,000 m3 of thick wood by the end of September in 2022, the same amount of residential demand appeared within 3 weeks within the framework of the Firewood Program launched on September 19. At the start of the initiative, the highest daily demand was 59,000 m3 and the lowest daily demand was 3,000 m3. By October of this year, the state forestry farms had already sold 125,000 m3 more firewood than last year, he added. He explained that since the demand for several forest farms exceeded the local production capacity, there were continuous transfers within the country. In this way, 23,500 cubic meters of timber will reach the capital region and the lowland regions in the first phase. Experience shows that the majority of applicants already have a stove for this winter and are already buying for the next year or the year after. There are forestry farms where this ratio exceeds 80 percent.

Forest farms prioritize the most needy

The minister asked for the population’s patience so that, in accordance with the purpose of the provision, the state forestry farms can first serve those who need wood at the beginning of the heating season. Forest farms continue to provide the opportunity to collect roaches, which can help families in need, the minister pointed out. He added that the public can get firewood at the official price under the Firewood Program. In addition to serving the population, the state forestry farms also provide the energy sector and power plants with the firewood needed for district heating. The state forest farms ask customers to make sure before ordering what the 10 m3 cylindrical raw material is, as well as whether they have suitable equipment and storage space to receive it. In order to provide continuous and smooth service, it is important that the firewood is received and transported after notification. They should also think about whether they really want to participate in the program, so that numerous residential order cancellations can be avoided. The state forestry farms continuously serve the needs of the population.
