The value of trade in goods in the EU has increased
The value of trade between the euro area and the European Union rose significantly in March, not surprisingly in light of the fact that the coronavirus pandemic had just exploded a year earlier and the economy was almost completely paralyzed in the second half of the month as a result of severe restrictions.
According to preliminary data released by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) on Tuesday, euro area merchandise exports in March, seasonally adjusted, rose by 8.9 percent year-on-year to 212.1 billion euros and imports by 19.2 percent to 196.3 billion euros. The trade balance thus showed a surplus of 15.8 billion euros, up from 29.9 billion euros of a year earlier. (MTI)
