NGM: tourism demand is increasing, the SZÉP Card was also a popular means of payment in March
The SZÉP Card also generated strong traffic in March, which remains the engine of tourism, the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) told MTI on Monday.
While 2.6 million users had SZÉP Cards in March last year, by March of this year the number of card holders had already increased to 2.8 million, and the amount of spending in the month approached HUF 59 billion. In one year, the number of hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions accepting the SZÉP Card increased by 12,000, because in March 2023, the payment instrument could be used in 132,000 places, by March 2024, this number had risen to 144,000 – it was announced in the announcement.
The continued popularity of the SZÉP Card is shown by the fact that the amount of top-ups increased by 22.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, so in March of this year, employers distributed HUF 58.7 billion. There is also an increase in spending, which indicates the revival of tourist demand: in March, compared to the previous year, the amount spent on SZÉP Cards increased by 10 percent to HUF 35 billion.
