NGM: Liszt Ferenc International Airport in top form
Liszt Ferenc International Airport is in top form, with passenger traffic increasing by nearly 20 percent and freight traffic by 50 percent until August, Máté Lóga, State Secretary responsible for economic strategy, industry, financial resources and macroeconomic analysis of the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) and chairman of the board of Budapest Airport Zrt. according to the ministry’s announcement on Sunday.
The performance of Liszt Ferenc International Airport shows explosive growth in 2024. In the first eight months of the year, passenger traffic increased by 18.6 percent, and cargo traffic by 49.7 percent, which means that Budapest Airport is well on its way to breaking all previous records. The data show that the tourist attraction of Hungary and Budapest is constantly growing, as well as that Hungarians are traveling abroad in increasing numbers, the state secretary explained in the announcement.
In the first eight months of this year, passenger traffic at Liszt Ferenc International Airport reached 11.4 million, which exceeded the result seen in the same period last year by 18.6 percent. The airport’s cargo traffic increased at an even higher rate, by 49.7 percent, which exceeded 184,000 tons. The increase in performance cannot be traced back to a single outlier month or event, this year’s development is tendentious, as the development of total passenger traffic and the total number of flights in each month exceeded the data seen last year, they wrote.
Until August, the most popular destinations were London, Istanbul, Milan, Paris and Brussels, they added.
