German solutions for dealing with labor problems in the hospitality industry
According to preliminary estimates published by the Federal Statistical Office, the German hospitality industry recovered significantly in 2022 from the crisis caused by the coronavirus.
According to the estimate of the German hospitality industry association DEHOGA, there are currently around 50,000 open jobs in German hospitality establishments – we read the statistics presented by VIMOSZ.
It is typical that in order to deal with the shortage, the transition to self-service is becoming more and more common, shorter opening hours are in force, and complete closures are also appearing. There are examples where re-opening after conversion is impossible due to a lack of manpower. Some businesses try to counter-steer with more closed days, reduced offers and increased prices to solve the problems. According to the association, the number of shortages will clearly continue to increase in the spring, despite the fact that they are already experiencing the return of workers who migrated to logistics or retail trade during Covid, and the reform of the training palette is also working towards improving the situation.
