It is not healthy to always eat the same thing for breakfast and dinner
Eating the same diet every day in the morning and in the evening can be a convenient and time-saving solution, but is it really healthy in the long run? According to dietitians interviewed by Huffpost, there are pros and cons to a monotonous diet.
Benefits and convenience aspects
Many people choose to eat the same meals every day because it simplifies meal preparations and routines. With a regular diet, it is easier to follow our nutritional intake, and if our pets are not only delicious, but also nutritious, maintaining the diet is even easier. For example, many people eat eggs, yogurt, or toast for breakfast, and chicken, broccoli, and rice for dinner. This simplicity and regularity can be convenient, but it can also be dangerous.
The dangers of a one-sided diet
According to Seattle-based dietitian Katherine Metzelaar, eating the same foods day in and day out can put you at risk of developing avoidant/restrictive eating disorder (ARFID). For example, a friend who is an athlete eats the same food at the same time every day to maintain energy levels and support digestive processes. However, such a strict diet can lead to nutrient deficiencies and deterioration of intestinal health in the long term.
The importance of a varied diet
Emily Van Eck, a dietitian in Austin, says the best solution to the problem is to increase the variety of foods you eat. A varied diet can help our bodies function at their best, as we can get more nutrients by eating different grains, vegetables and proteins. Vegetables are especially important because they contain valuable fiber, vitamins and antioxidants that lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
