István Nagy: Hungarian wine producers are not opponents, but inspirers of each other
Hungarian wine producers are not opponents of each other, but inspire each other; this is what drives this sector forward – said the Minister of Agriculture at the ceremonial announcement of the results of the 41st National Wine Competition (OBV) in Budapest on Wednesday.

According to István Nagy, Hungarian agriculture always looks to the Hungarian winemaking community as an example, because it constantly comes up with innovations that other sectors should follow. Winemakers not only find, but also influence consumer needs, he said, adding: success depends on who reacts quickly, who is innovative, who can dictate the trend. Although it is the OBV competition, the participants are not opponents – pointed out the minister, who also pointed out that it is important to spread the knowledge accumulated by the prize-winning winemakers to the widest possible circle. – The harvest is still ahead of us: our wheat, our everyday grain, is safely in the barn, the wine industry is now working to ensure that there is wine in the cellars. – said István Nagy.
The OVB is both a competition and a forum for winemakers
Ottó Légli, president of the National Council of Mountain Villages, emphasized that so much talent and innovation has accumulated among Hungarian wine producers that “now we no longer have to compete with each other, but with ourselves”. As he reminded, the National Wine Competition was organized again after two years. The OBV is much more than a competition, rather a kind of forum, since the evaluation is primarily carried out by the producers – he noted. Pál Rókusfalvy, the government commissioner responsible for national wine marketing, emphasized that the OBV is the most prestigious and largest Hungarian wine competition. Speaking about his recently occupied office, he said: his task is to coordinate community wine marketing and wine communication tasks, as well as to prepare the strategy for the coming years. Our job is to ensure that every deciliter of wine has its place. – emphasized the government commissioner, emphasizing the foreign trade and tourism aspects of wine marketing.
232 wineries from 22 wine regions of the country entered the 41st National Wine Competition with a total of 824 items. The prize for the most successful winery went to Pajzos Tokaj, whose wines won three gold medals and two gold medals this year.
