Munich no match for the Amsterdam PLMA yet
Several events are organised by the Private Label Manufacturers Association every year where manufacturers get an opportunity to do business with retail chains. Among these, the exhibition held in Amsterdam is the most important. The event held in Munich in November is no challenger for Amsterdam yet. Private labels account for 23-24 percent of total sales in the US and for 30-40 percent in some EU markets, like the Netherlands. In Japan, private labels account for only 10 percent of total sales, while their market share is only around 5 percent in Latin America. The first Private Label exhibition held in Munich took place in last November. The event occupied only a single exhibition hall and there was nothing like the crowd seen in Amsterdam. Registration took only seconds. I didn’t see any collective stands in the hall either and there were only a few exhibitors from Hungary. Speaking with exhibitors, I got the impression that they were disappointed with the number of visitors and the absence of the representatives of chains like Metro, Markant, or the Rewe Group.
