Is it worth becoming a baker now? This is behind the increase in the price of bread
Based on recently published inflation data, bread cost 64% more in August this year than a year earlier. Everyone has experienced the increase in the price of bread and pastries, but the drop in Ukrainian wheat exports and the drop in energy prices are most often cited as the reasons behind the price increase. However, it is quite possible that the labor shortage and wage increases also play a role in this: the Pénzcentrum has now found a job advertisement in which bakers are being recruited with a salary of over half a million forints.

Bakers’s wages keep increasing
Recently, we have experienced a general labor shortage here, which puts employers in an increasingly difficult situation. On the one hand, because of this, and on the other hand, due to this year’s flat salary increases and high inflation, they are forced to offer higher and higher salaries, and more and more job advertisements now include specific numbers regarding salaries. At the Pénzcentrum, we have just found such a window-paying advertisement: they are looking for bakers with a salary between HUF 550 and HUF 650,000, and they also promise bonus benefits.
Who are they looking for?
According to the ad, they are looking for bakers for a soon-to-open artisan bakery. However, not everyone is suitable for the position promising a salary of over half a million: they are looking for qualified applicants with a vocational qualification in the bakery industry, but also require 3-5 years of professional experience, as well as demanding work and the environment. The ad does not state whether it is a gross or net salary, so it is better to assume that this is the gross salary.
With a gross salary of HUF 550,000, a baker can receive HUF 365,000 net, and 432,000 of the gross 650,000 can be taken home. There is also the bonus mentioned in the ad, although we do not know anything specific about it. By the way, the job was advertised in Diósd, which is surprising, since it can generally be said that the highest wages can be expected in the capital, not in the countryside.
