The seasonally adjusted value of the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) in March fell by 48.7 points from the 49.0 points in February, the Hungarian Logistics, Purchasing and Inventory Company (MLBKT) said on Thursday.

Respondents reported unfavorable developments for the second month in a row, compared to the previous month, and the pace of contraction is still not strong -the company added.

According to the report, the composition of the index remains two-faced. The volume of new orders, the volume of production, as well as the volume of stocks purchased and the employment sub-indices also point to an increase above 50.0 points. The unfavorable PMI value can be explained by the fifth sub-indicator that makes up the index: the value of the transport lead time fell again to a record low and indicates an increase in lead times for many respondents, mainly determining the lower value of the PMI index.
