PET Kupa and Diageo exceeded all expectations with their joint waste disposal campaign
The two-year waste elimination action program launched by Diageo and PET Kupa in the spring of 2022, which focused on the Subcarpathian region of Tisza in Ukraine, is proving to be a bigger success than expected. 1,200 tons of waste were collected and recycled with the help of local professional partners and the effective involvement of the population, significantly exceeding the originally set goal. In addition to the financial contribution and the provision of the necessary tools, the conscientious and competent execution of tasks, as well as the shaping of the public’s attitude, together created the success of the project despite the challenges arising from the war.
The PET Kupa Egyesület undertook to collect, sort and process 690 tons of waste with its program announced in the Tisza’s Subcarpathian source region, to which Diageo, the world’s leading alcoholic beverage producer and distributor, joined as a sponsor. Due to the limited central waste collection and the lack of recycling, the accumulated waste of about 3 million tons endangers the local environment, rivers and forests, not only in the Ukrainian section, but also in Hungary. The solution to this problem was offered by the joint two-year project of the two organizations, which was implemented with the direct involvement of the local population, including 21 settlements, 29 schools and 61,800 residents and students. The original commitment of the CALL-Action project was fulfilled within a year.
