Every woman deserves night safety: from now on, the Home Phone Foundation can help you even more
There’s no woman who hasn’t clutched a bunch of keys or put more blocks in her night walk just because she didn’t feel safe. A prerequisite for gender equality is that women should not always have to worry when they go home from a party or go for an evening run. Thanks to Johnnie Walker’s new program, the Home Phone Foundation can help even more women feel safe. Two-thirds of women often feel threatened when walking alone at night, and 41% only leave home if they take precautions in front of them. One in five women doesn’t move out at all after sunset because she’s afraid to be on a deserted street in the dark. Girls learn very early on that a lot of danger can lurk in them, so by the time they grow up, it can be a matter of course for them to be on constant alert, to live their days, and especially their nights, in a kind of reflexive vigilance. Yet modern women have everything they need to prevail in any area of life: the will to act and to fight, the knowledge, the passion and the perseverance. However, in order to dare to move forward and conquer new ways, they must first feel safe, because whether they go home from a party or go for a health walk or run, they also have the right, as a woman, not to have to worry at night.
