In the second half of last week, a lot of rain came mainly to the north-east and south-east of the country, which did not help the corn, but it still mattered a lot to the sugar beet and autumn-ripening fruits, and the sown cabbage-rape also needs every drop of rain, he wrote in his agrometeorological analysis on Monday the National Meteorological Service.

They added: in the last five days, more than 10 millimeters of rain fell in a significant part of the country, and even more than 40-50 millimeters fell in a large area in the northeast and southeast, but at the same time, the northwest part of the country and a wide swath of the Kaposvár-Szolnok line were left out of the rain. As a result of the wetter period that began after August 20, the amount of precipitation for the past 30 days already exceeds the long-term average in large areas, and this has not been the case for a long time, but there is still a considerable shortfall in the 90-day amount. In a significant part of the country, the near-surface layer of the soil is wet and muddy in many places, and the moisture reaches the deeper layers in an increasingly large area. Currently, the soil in the central part of the Great Plain is the driest. The extent and territorial extent of the drought further decreased, rather it is only characteristic of the central part of the Great Plain and Southeastern Transdanubia – they wrote.

According to the analysis, sunflowers have already been harvested in most places, although the last rainy days didn’t favor this

In the west and southwest, where the soil moisture was relatively favorable in the first half of the summer, the situation is not as bad as in the eastern part of the country, where there is no crop at all in a large area. The rainfall that has arrived in the past few days has been a lifesaver in many ways, although the sunflowers and our corn no longer mattered. However, it enabled the emergence of freshly sown rapeseed and the burnt pastures are also greening up again, they wrote. They explained: changeable, early autumn weather is expected in the week ahead. After the dry weather on Tuesday, rain, showers, and even thunderstorms are expected in the northeast on Wednesday, and from Thursday until the end of the week across the country. Overall, another 10 millimeters of precipitation is expected in a large area this week, and according to current calculations, even more may fall in the southwest. Soil moisture will increase again in the second half of the week.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the south-westerly, and on Sunday, the westerly and north-westerly winds will strengthen in a large area. The weather will warm up until Thursday, then the peak value is expected to be between 25-30 degrees, and then a strong cooling lasting for days is likely by the end of the week – they wrote.
