After the summer-like hot and dry weather at the beginning of April, a significant cooling and more or less precipitation is expected next week, which would be greatly needed especially in the Great Plains, because here the top 20 centimeters of the soil is critically dry – wrote Thursday’s agrometeorological report of HungaroMet Zrt. in his analysis.

According to the analysis, the peak temperature rose in the second half of last week, and peak values around 25 degrees and above were typical, but on Wednesday a cooler air mass arrived in Transdanubia. The daily average of the soil temperature measured at 5 centimeters has been above the 10-degree threshold required for sowing corn for more than two weeks, and is currently around 15 degrees, slightly above it in many places. On Thursday and Friday last week, there was light rain and showers in the northern areas, but since then the weather has been dry throughout the country. The 90-day rainfall is almost in the entire country below the long-term average, and in the Great Plain it reaches 30-60 millimeters.

The autumn crops are in good condition, developing two or three weeks ahead of normal

The ears of corn are growing intensively, and the autumn cabbage-rape is blooming. Autumn sowings across the country, even in the Great Plains, find plenty of moisture in the deeper soil layers, but at the same time, spring sowings in the Great Plains would need a lot of rainfall, the soil is currently too dry for seed bed preparation and germination. Many types of fruit trees have already blossomed, and several are currently blooming, the dry, warm weather is favorable for them – they noted.

According to the forecast, the dry, warm weather reminiscent of summer will last until Sunday

On Monday, rain, showers, thunderstorms, and a strong cooling will begin in the north, and gloomy, windy, often rainy weather is expected from Tuesday. By the middle of next week, the total amount of precipitation may exceed 10 millimeters in large areas, and 20 millimeters in some places, but there may also be parts of the country that are left out of the heavy rain. Temperatures will drop to 10-15 degrees by Wednesday. Due to the many clouds and wind, a strong cooling at night is not expected until the middle of next week, but in the second half of next week there may be clear nights with the risk of frost.
