Cakes of Hungary have appeared in pastry shops
This year, Hungary’s Cake and Sugar-Free Cake were selected, which in 2024 became the imaginative creation of Mákvirág by Vác confectioner Alfréd Kovács, and Zöld Málna by Szeged confectioners Ádám Novák and László Csonka. The award-winning cakes will be available from August 19 in more than 500 pastry shops across the country.
The Poppy Flower Cake, reminiscent of poppy dough, black currants, and grandma’s cake, is made with white chocolate cream, almond flour poppy seed sponge, black currant layer, and black sesame seed grilling. The Green Raspberry Cake offers a special taste experience with the combination of green pistachio mousse, raspberry jelly and rose water, which is made even more unique by white chocolate and dried rose petals.
Balázs Erdélyi, the professional president of the Hungarian Confectionery Industry Association, told Pénzcentrum that although the ingredients for cakes are expensive this year as well, no significant price increase is expected compared to last year. The average price of slats is expected to be around HUF 1,500-1,600, which is only slightly higher than last year’s average price of HUF 1,400.
While some pastry shops did not undertake to make the cakes this year due to the expensive ingredients, Hungary’s Cakes are still popular in most places. Patisserie shops are optimistic about the long weekend of August 20, and many hope that visitor traffic will exceed last year’s level. As in previous years, they are expecting a lot of interest this year, especially for the winning cakes.
Despite the economic challenges of recent years, confectioners are confident that guests will return and traffic will pick up again. The Cake of Hungary competition continues to play an important role for the pastry industry, as it not only brings professional recognition, but also provides a special experience for guests.
