Lemon ice tea becoming even more popular
According to the GfK Hungária ConsumerScan, growth of the ice tea market continued both in terms of quantity and value in the first quarter of 2009. The market was still dominated by lemon and peach flavours. Growth has been continuous for years. The reason behind growth in the first quarter was an increase in the quantities purchased by households, with one out of seven households buying ice tea on average. Lemon and peach flavours accounted for 89 percent of total sales. While sales of peach flavoured ice tea were down by 7 percent, lemon flavour produced a 35 percent increase. The market share of green ice tea was up from 1 percent to 5 percent. Private labels produced growth of 12 percent in the first quarter. The market share of discounts dropped, while that of hyper markets grew (by 50 percent) in the first quarter.
