Mastercard: Hungarian cybersecurity awareness is lagging behind
Based on Mastercard’s study published today, recent years have radically changed the nature and effectiveness of cyber attacks, thus posing a serious challenge to both individual users and businesses. In the face of cybercrime, many expect security from the old methods, while hyperconnectivity and artificial intelligence have created a new world.
During the pandemic, more than 1 billion users appeared on the Internet[1], which on the one hand meant the explosive growth of e-commerce, but also brought with it a new age of cybercrime.
The study “The age of cyberattacks” points out that while more than one billion users are online during the pandemic, the awareness and caution of users has not improved at all, while we are exposed to a much greater risk. My number of email scams increased by 667 percent[2] during the pandemic, and there were more cyber attacks in 2020 than in the previous 15 years combined. This number has increased by another 17 percent by 2021[3].
