Department store chains against plastic
Plastic contamination has long been a major problem. According to an article by Wired in the U.S., 381 million tons of plastic were produced in 2015, more than half, 55 percent, of plastic waste was discarded, 25 percent was burnt, and only 20 percent was recycled. The global packaging market is forecast to grow 5.5 percent this year due to the pandemic, and this growth will be driven by demand for plastic packaging. Meanwhile, large corporations, including the largest chain stores, are announcing a series of programs to reduce plastic use. (napi.hu, Csernátony Csaba)
