The nominees for the Restaurant of the Year award are now awaited.
The Hungarian Restaurant Association (MVI) has announced the “Restaurant of the Year” award again this year, and is accepting nominations from its members for the next recipient until January 20, 2026.
The award, established by the MVI in 2001, can be given to a restaurateur who enhances the prestige of the hospitality industry with outstanding professional performance, exemplary, fair behavior, and active public involvement. It is also important that the awardee’s love of the profession and knowledge are exemplary for the growing generations and their peers.
Members of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry may nominate for the award, but not only members of industry associations, but also any restaurateur working in the profession who the nominators consider worthy of the title, can be nominated for the award.
The nearly quarter-century history of the “Restaurant of the Year” award clearly demonstrates the diversity of the domestic hospitality industry: among the awardees we find, among others, András Gombás, László Jakabffy, Balázs Csapody, Tibor Rosenstein, Rudolf Semsei, Katalin Pintér, and most recently Gábor Kovács, Zoltán Erhard and Mihály Rácz, who was awarded in 2024.
The industry association encourages its members to help select the next “Restaurant of the Year” with as many nominations as possible, thereby recognizing those restaurateurs who work to raise the standard of Hungarian hospitality every day.
